10 suggestions from Mr. Hoggatt
- Get to know Mr. Hoggatt by clicking on Meet the Teacher.
- Familiarize yourself with our classroom policies by visiting our Online Classroom Handbook.
- Get a head start on our Earn Your Wings! projects. Explore the possibilities of our elite Fellowship of Perspicacious Erudites, our adventurous Missouri Masters Hunting Club, our prestigious Great Reading Challenge, Multiplication Masters, and other terrific opportunities. Plus, check out new ways to help other people with The D.A.L.E. Initiative.
- Try our Forums. You can communicate directly with Mr. Hoggatt and possibly other students in the class by commenting and reading the forums. Before you can comment, however, please contact Mr. Hoggatt and ask him to enroll you in the forums.
- Join our Hoggatteer Wikispace by enrolling with Mr. Hoggatt, as well. This is a fun place where you can work with Mr. Hoggatt and others on creative writing projects.
- Need help with your school work? We have a few places you can help yourself. First, in Academic Helps, Mr. Hoggatt has included some interesting links to help you in various school subjects. Next, try your hand at some of our Online Projects. Finally, you’ll probably be more interested in our Online Bookmarks – your link to fun and interesting activities on the internet. These last two link to Mr. Hoggatt’s Portaportal sites (which we use in class throughout the year).
- Keep up with the things you’ve already learned. Practice your basic multiplication facts so you won’t have to learn them all over again. Mr. Hoggatt expects students to already know the zeroes through the nines. This is a third grade skill that you should not have to relearn in the fourth grade. Also, reading for 30 minutes every day will keep your fluency and comprehension skills fresh. Plus, remember you can take Accelerated Reader tests on these books when you get to our class.
- Check out our School Supply list. Print the list and start collecting your supplies now.
- Think of ways you can “turn over a new leaf” in the fourth grade. It doesn’t matter if you bullied others in the third grade, if you were lazy with your work, or if you were shy; Mr. Hoggatt knows that you can make changes if you put your mind to it. Set goals for yourself and stick to them. Learn how you can Take Flight with a program designed to reward you for improvement and for encouraging others to improve.
- Enjoy your summer: go to new places, experience new things, and keep a journal or scrapbook. Check the Classroom Calendar for Open House and Back to School dates. In the meantime, check out the pages for Preparing for Open House and What to Expect on the First Day.
